Credit crunch chic…?
Credit crunch is the word of the day, if not the decade. Depressingly enough, for actually most of us, we are in the midst of the worst financial crisis of human history - and it wasn’t even Robert Peston who coined that one.
All the mags have been going nuts writing about the Visa Swap campaign, fronted by Lindsay Lohan, emphasising vintage clothes (although I personally feel second hand/ worn by someone else and it smells of sweat is more appropriate) and not to mention the importance of investing (not buying) in those life-long pieces like the LBD, a great bag and some heels etc. etc.
Yes, times are depressing but like Stefano Pilati (YSL) said, what is the point in designing dull clothes when what people, women (!) need is a real pick-me-up and a sparkly, beautiful wardrobe. The catwalk never lies in reflecting the current social and economic trends yet it has been more hopeful this season: extravagant furs a la Gucci that every other high street chain is copying, lots of lace and sequins and who could forget Burberry’s feather dress?
Just because times are hard does not mean one should lose their sense of style, nor hope of a brighter (economic) future. Put money aside for these harsh times to come but never underestimate the value of what that one special piece might do for you and your future…
